Paroex is an oral rinse containing chlorhexidine gluconate 0.12%, prescribed to help manage gingivitis by reducing plaque, gum redness, swelling, and bleeding. The usual dose is 15 mL undiluted, swished in the mouth for 30 seconds twice daily, typically after brushing. It should not be swallowed, and patients should avoid rinsing, eating, or drinking for 30 minutes afterward. Common side effects include temporary tooth and tongue staining, tartar buildup, and altered taste perception, which are usually managed with routine dental cleaning.
